Getting the proportions right

• Length: aim for a fixture about half the length of your island or table — anywhere from one-third to two-thirds reads as intentional.
• Height: hang the bottom 30 to 36 inches above the surface — low enough to light the work, high enough to talk across.

Designer tip: center the fixture on the island, not the room — the surface below decides the placement.
