Ceiling Lights That Do the Heavy Lifting
Ceiling lights quietly carry most of the workload in a home. Our ceiling light fixtures pair comfortable, even illumination with silhouettes that feel considered, not fussy. Choose low-profile flush mounts for tight clearances or semi-flush designs that add a bit more presence in hallways, bedrooms, kitchens, and baths.
Fast sizing guides (rules of thumb)
- Room-center ceiling light: room length + width (ft) ≈ fixture diameter (in).
- Flush & semi-flush height: keep the bottom of the fixture at least 7 ft above the floor (raise higher on stairs or in high-traffic areas).
- Hallway spacing: place fixtures about 8–10 ft apart so pools of light overlap slightly.
- Small rooms & closets: choose compact flush mounts that sit close to the ceiling but still spread light to the corners.
- Open concept spaces: coordinate ceiling lights with nearby pendants or chandeliers for a unified look.
Light quality & controls
- Color & comfort: aim for 2700–3000K warm white LEDs with CRI 90+ so paint colors, finishes, and skin tones look natural.
- Dimming: pair ceiling lights with a compatible dimmer to move from bright task lighting to softer evening levels.
- Diffusion: opal glass, fabric, or acrylic diffusers help soften hotspots and reduce glare in lower ceilings.
Designer tip: Repeat one metal finish and one shade material at least twice in a space—on ceiling lights, wall lights, or pendants—for a calm, cohesive ceiling line.
