Flush and semi-flush mounts are the workhorses of whole-home lighting — real light and real style without asking your ceiling for height it doesn't have. Flush mounts hug the ceiling completely; semi-flush designs drop just a few inches to add dimension and a touch of chandelier presence while keeping walkways clear.

How to choose

• 8-foot ceilings: this is your collection. Code asks for at least 7 feet of clearance in walking areas — flush and semi-flush fixtures deliver that by design.
• Sizing: add your room's length and width in feet; that total in inches is a good starting fixture diameter. Wide semi-flush mounts (24 inches and up) can even stand in for a chandelier over a dining table.
• Style range: families like Alcott, Jules, Axel, Finley, and Jasper span antique ivory, vintage sage, champagne brass, and black iron — farmhouse to modern.

Designer tip: in bedrooms, choose a diffused or enclosed-bottom design — nobody wants to look straight up at a bare bulb.
